Dragon Head Incense Backflow Set
Inspired by the iconic “Dragon Head Incense” (Longtou Xiang) of Wudang Mountain, this set recreates the legendary “Turning Dragon Head Stone” motif. It is designed to preserve a sense of Wudang’s sacred spirit for those unable to visit the Golden Summit in person, offering a symbolic connection across distance and time.
The incense holder is shaped as a majestic Azure Dragon, with finely detailed scales and claws, surrounded by flowing auspicious cloud patterns. The dragon leans forward as if emerging through the clouds, holding a celestial pathway in its mouth and grasping a golden orb in its claw—evoking the imagery of a divine dragon traversing the heavens and overcoming all obstacles.
When a backflow incense cone is placed atop the dragon’s head, the smoke flows downward like a cascading stream along the cloud pathway. The drifting smoke resembles rolling mist over mountains and seas, as if the dragon is exhaling spiritual vapor, recreating the solemnity and ethereal atmosphere of the Wudang Golden Summit’s Dragon Head Incense ritual.
A blend of cultural symbolism and visual serenity, this piece brings the spirit of Wudang into your space—calm, sacred, and timeless.

Wudang Mountain “Dragon Head Incense” Tradition
The Dragon Head Incense (Longtou Xiang), also known as the Dragon Head Stone, is a landmark stone carving located in front of the Liangyi Hall at Nanyan Palace on Wudang Mountain. Originally constructed in the first year of the Yuan Dynasty’s Yanyou era, it has a history of over 700 years.
According to legend, the twin dragons carved on the dragon head are the divine mounts of Zhenwu the Great Emperor, capable of carrying human prayers directly to the heavenly realm. As a result, “offering incense at the Dragon Head” has long been regarded as one of the most powerful and effective ways to pray for blessings and protection.
Inspired by this sacred heritage, the incense vessel recreates the imagery of the cliffside stone structure in a refined brass dragon form, transforming the once-inaccessible ritual on a sheer cliff into a tangible, elegant presence on the desk.
Ambergris – The Floating Gold of the Sea
Ambergris has long been known as the “Floating Gold of the Sea”, and is regarded as the foremost of the four classic fragrances. It is also considered a rare “pure yang essence” treasured in both Taoist tradition and imperial perfumery.
Formed as a natural secretion of the sperm whale, ambergris undergoes a long transformation through ocean currents, sunlight, and seawater over many years. During this process, it gradually sheds its initial impurities and develops into a smooth, wax-like substance with a warm, golden luster—hence the poetic name “floating gold.”
In Taoist thought, ambergris is believed to be born from the depths of the sea yet refined by time, embodying the qualities of gathering energy, returning to balance, and calming the mind and spirit. It is regarded as the most precious stabilizing element in traditional incense blending—the “soul of fragrance.”
Traditional Wudang Incense Craftsmanship
Our incense is made following the traditional Taoist incense-making methods of Wudang, guided by the principle that fragrance and medicinal herbs share the same origin.
From raw material selection to aging and final preparation, every step strictly follows classical procedures. Each incense stick is handcrafted through kneading, shaping, and finishing, rather than machine production. While this method is less efficient, it preserves the refined texture, cultural depth, and human warmth of traditional craftsmanship, ensuring that every stick carries the essence of ancient incense culture.
